Question: Will my weight automatically return to normal after my Cortisol levels are normal? How quickly will this happen and will I need to diet? Also, I have heard that when most of the pituitary is removed, growth hormone replacement may be required before I can lose weight. Answer: These are good questions. Your weight will return to whatever you were before Cushing's syndrome four to six months following surgery. Growth hormone therapy may be necessary if you have lost growth hormone because of the pituitary tumor and the added injury to your pituitary with pituitary surgery, but that needs to be tested separately. Growth hormone therapy will not make you lose weight. It makes you gain bone and lean body mass and lose fat, but you do not change your weight, as you are increasing your lean body mass.
