Hello All! My name is Janice McCarrick. I was diagnosed with Cushing's in late1999 and my surgery was in March of 2000. My Cushing's letter is on the web page under Code 1000. So as you can see I've been aware of CSRF for a while now. I just had a checkup at UVA with Mary Vance and Ed Laws and was told the good news that I am continued to be classified as "cured". They are quite thrilled with the changes and good health I have had since removal of my pituitary tumors. Since my first post-op checkup I have been medication free! Yipeee!! Needless to say I am quite thrilled my surgery and recovery went so well.. and that I have regained some of the life I thought I had lost when I was in the middle of my Cushing's. Of course not all of my symptoms have reversed.. thinning hair and the hirsutism are still problematic.. along with some fatigue and life feeling a bit overwhelming sometimes. Otherwise I am symptom free and incredibly thankful to have had such a wonderful result with my surgery.
I'm not sure if I should still refer to myself as someone with Cushing's Disease... but I do. I don't think anyone who has this disease is ever truly free from it. I talk about it constantly to whomever will listen. After living all that time feeling like I was losing my mind, I want everyone to know about the disease in case there is that one person in their life that might by chance be undiagnosed. I work in a pharmacy as a certified tech so you can imagine the opportunities that present themselves with the contact with patients, nurses and doctors. I am doing rather well physically and emotionally with everything and feeling pretty strong, thus I would like to be of help to anyone who needs encouragement or support.
