At age 21, my pituitary tumor was removed. I had been diagnosed by my dermatologist who noticed the hump on my back. Following surgery, I lost weight the first few months and for about two years things were OK. I started having symptoms again and went back to my endocrinolgist. He monitored me every three months with MRI's and after a year, recommended radiation. My hair thinned from the high levels of radiation and my brain stalk was damaged, leaving me with diabetes insipidus. I am showing more symptoms of the thin skin and bruising and am worried about my weight. I would like to talk with anyone who has had radiation following pituitary surgery. My doctor told me it could take as long as five years before we know if the radiation was effective.
