Hi! I am an old member. I have been battling Cushing’s for years. I was first diagnosed in 1990. I am sure that I had it since 1986. I feel, and discussed it with my doctor that I had the tumor all of my life and it went through a metamorphosis and started the Cushing’s. The reason I thought that was because since I was a baby, I had tremors and sweated greatly. After my first transsphenoidal resection, all of that stopped. I was in remission for 7 years and it entered my life again in 1997. It was a heart break, but don’t worry, this is rare I learned. I had Gamma knife in 1998 and it didn’t cure me. Finally, in 2000, I had my second one. It was successful. I had a 50 percent chance of going blind, but so far, I am fine. My husband asked me, did I want to take the chance. I told him that I had to gamble because I couldn’t live in this torture. I had all the symptoms that Cushing’s patients have. It did slow my career as a nurse and teacher. I have worked some as an RN since my second remission. I do still weigh in the 160’s, but that is due to me not dieting like I did the first time when I got to 125. I have a personal trainer and work out at Gold’s Gym. Believe me, it is still hard. I am not like I was before due to the damage that the high cortisol did to me. I become very tired and my eyes bother me around lights. Public places make my head feel swimmy. I check my blood pressure and it is fine. I am going to have my glucose checked because my whole family is diabetic. I wasn’t a diabetic during Cushing’s. Believe me I am a veteran of this. Write me, email me or call!! My belief now is to be a survivor with a purpose. I did publish a poem in a book and the poem speaks of surviving after Cushing’s. My mother and brother both died this year and it has really been a mental hardship. I look forward to hearing from you!! |
